Select a Culminating Task

Tool Purpose

  1. Brainstorm culminating tasks related to your anchoring phenomenon that position students to act in their lives or communities

What’s Included

This tool includes a set of resources to help you brainstorm candidate culminating tasks, focusing on what students will do or produce and what authentic audience they will share their work with.

Importance for Unit Design

The culminating task is the culmination of a storyline unit. This is where students apply what they’ve learned throughout the unit to their lives and communities. Students get to experience what it feels like to be part of individual and/or collective action. For climate change education, this local action is crucial for developing students’ sense of agency and hope.

Student Perspectives

Students share stories of their experiences of local culminating tasks in the Peach and Salmon pathways. They describe how they drew on the knowledge they developed in the unit, how they took on meaningful roles, and how they were able to connect to their personal interests and make a community impact.
